Interval training and Aerobic Training
Austin Self Defense incorporates this same type of training philosophy when designing each and every fitness class. Similar to Taebo, the fitness classes are up beat, fun and rew
arding.
Interval training works both the aerobic and the anaerobic system. During the high intensity effort the anaerobic system uses the energy stored in the muscles (glycogen) for shortbursts of activity. Anaerobic metabolism works without oxygen. The by-product is lactic acid, which is related to the burning sensation felt in the muscles during high intensity efforts. During the high intensity interval, lactic acid builds and the athlete enters oxygen debt. During the recovery phase the heart and lungs work together to 'pay back' this oxygen debt and break down the lactic acid. It is in this phase that the aerobic system is in control, using oxygen to convert stored carbohydrates into energy.
Cardiovascular System:
The body begins to build new capillaries, and is better able to take in and deliver oxygen to the working muscles. Muscles develop a higher tolerance to the build-up of lactate, and the heart muscle is strengthened. These changes result in improved performance particularly within the cardiovascular system.
Muscles:
Interval training also helps prevent the injuries often associated with repetitive endurance exercise, and they allow you to increase your training intensity without overtraining or burn-out. In this way, adding intervals to your workout routine is a good way to cross train. We have had very good success with members achieving quick results due to the fact that interval training coupled with our ever changing curriculum keeps the muscles confused therefore never reaching a plateau. The bag work tones and tightens the muscles through resistance and by consistently adding different bag drills as well as incorporating bands, jump ropes, medicine balls, stability balls and other equipment into the classes, we keep your body trying to adapt to the new stresses placed upon it thus increasing your level of fitness in a very short time frame.
Weight Loss Management:
If you are counting calories burned, high intensity exercise, such as intervals, beats long, slow endurance exercise hands down. Short bursts and consistently changing workouts not only keep you from getting bored but have been proven to burn more calories then a constant pace low intensity workout such as walking or constant pace high intensity workout such as running. Couple these workouts with changes in eating habits (no reference to dieting) and you will see significant results very quickly.
If you are looking for a Fun, Upbeat workout that brings so much diversity into your workout that you never get bored, you have found the right classes at Austin Self Defense with our Fitness Programs.
